Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is a systematic technique which can identify the failure modes and their consequences

Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is a systematic technique which can identify the failure modes and their consequences for the individual components within a defined system. It can help reveal if failures, whether on their own or in combination, have the potential for undesirable consequences. The criticality of each failure mode in the system is then assessed by:

  • Applying a qualitative scoring value to the severity of the failure.
  • Applying a qualitative scoring value to the probability of occurrence.
  • Utilising a risk matrix to determine the criticality.
