Internal audit from an external party benefits companies who have become close to their business management systems and could potentially miss risk areas or have areas of opportunity highlighted which have not been considered. This is often called the benefit of a “fresh pair of eyes” and is invaluable for preparation for corporate audits, certification audits and to help improve management systems.
Audit scope defines the extent of the audit; the audit provides evidence of the level of compliance against the requirements.
Within a business management system, audit performs the role of “checking the checks” and does not replace regular, routine checking. So, both audit and regular checks are required.
