Proposed revisions to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

26th February 2013

Following consultations in 2012, the stakeholder comment and the publication of the Government’s response in December 2012, there are to be imminent changes to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

Historically feedback from businesses and the CBI has frequently suggested that the scheme should be simplified and be made less onerous for the participants. Thus a summary of proposals include:

  • a shortening of the CRC qualification process;
  • a reduction in the amount of reporting required by businesses;
  • a 55% reduction in administrative costs, and
  • a lesser overlap of CRC with other schemes.

It is expected an Order will come in to force from 1 June 2013 and that the majority of proposed changes will be introduced at the beginning of the second phase, in 2014/2015. Registration for this phase will open in April 2013.
