We are seeking to recruit a Principal Geo-Environmental/ Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team to support technical excellence and business growth. This is a Principal role with responsibility for team development, team performance and coaching / supervision of supporting staff. The selected candidate will work within a supportive and driven team, delivering Group targets for sales, successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

The Role

The successful applicant will be based from our Manchester office, the position may require travel and occasional overnight stays throughout the U.K., and further afield depending on project requirements. We are a flexible employer and are willing to consider flexible working arrangements that are desirable to you.

Some travel is involved, for which a company pool car is available and for which a clean, valid UK driving licence will be required.

Occasionally travel by air will be required, for which a valid passport and photo ID is needed.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and position requirements. Potential candidates are requested to provide an indication of their salary expectations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold

  • a BSc, BEng, or MSc/MEng in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Earth Sciences, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or other relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or you should be on track to achieve this status.

Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record of working in geo-environmental/geotechnical consultancy in the U.K.
  • Relevant experience, knowledge and skills of geo-environmental/geotechnical principals and practice including experience of planning and supervising ground investigations, undertaking reporting, and preparation of contract drawings, site investigation specifications and schedules in compliance with U.K. standards.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and manage and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales and budgets are met
  • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical engineering solutions.
  • Responsibility for your own personal development and be able to support the learning of others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors in a multi-disciplinary project environment therefore the ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner and produce clear reports is essential.
  • Financial control, project management and contract management skills would be advantageous.
