The purpose of ISO 50001 is a technical standard, put in place to improve the energy performance of an organisation. This two day training programme is designed to inform and build on delegates’ skills and understanding of auditing for business management systems compliance to ISO 50001:2018 standards.

Overview

Part management systems, part technical/engineering, Energy Management Systems (EnMS) are put in place to control and effectively manage energy use, looking at using prioritised structured projects to maintain energy performance improvement.

The programme provides training to assist in building the competency of internal EnMS auditors in an organisation, and is undertaken in line with ISO 50001, the international energy management systems standard. Your two trainers for this course cover expertise in management systems delivery and technical energy consultancy expertise.

Course Objectives

The overall aim of this course is to equip delegates with a general understanding of how to audit the effectiveness of their organisation’s EnMS. In detail this involves the following goals:

  • To understand the energy management systems structure, requirements.
  • Terms and definitions – what these mean within the standard.
  • To understand the purpose of the standard by clause, and how auditing assists this.
  • To understand the principles of auditing.
  • To understand how to perform an energy management systems internal audit, including: – the internal audit process from initiation to audit reporting; – types of audit evidence to be captured;    – understanding potential barriers and how to address these, and – audit reporting of evidence and findings
  • To understand how auditors can demonstrate their competence.
  • Evidence of competence via an online test.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at people who are, or will be, involved in the internal audit process.  Delegates may include system auditors for other standards (e.g. ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 14001), line managers, Energy Champions, facilities/ maintenance technical staff, or Quality/Health and Safety professionals who may be moving towards a multiple audit role.

Course Description

The course is specifically designed to develop Internal Auditor competency, to plan, develop and undertake and report internal EnMS audits in accordance with guidelines published in ISO 19011:2018 “Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems”, and combines practical case study exercises with trainer presentations and group review sessions.  As with all courses there is a strong emphasis on activity based learning through exercises that encourage team working.
