We have an opportunity for a junior level (e.g. graduate, or 1 – 2 years’ experience) Occupational Health & Safety Consultant to join our growing team, to help in the delivery of diverse safety projects for our wide-ranging public and private sector clients. This position is suited to an individual looking to develop their career as a safety & health practitioner. The successful individual will support business and service growth, along with technical delivery of health & safety projects.

Role & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as a member of the Health & Safety Team and have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects, which may typically include the following:

  • Occupational health & safety legal compliance audits and inspections, including developing tailored legal registers and prioritised action plans.
  • Legislation-specific (e.g., COSHH, PUWER, Working at Height, Manual Handling) risk assessments and provision of compliance-focused recommendations and support.
  • Provision of on-site occupational health & safety advisory support.
  • Provision of training courses, seminars and workshops to clients at different levels of delivery.
  • Provide marketing and business development support, identifying new clients and opportunities, to support the growth and expansion of the firm.
  • The successful candidate will work within a supportive, friendly and driven team, contributing to meeting team sales targets.

You will be based at our Glasgow office, however, Mabbett has adopted a hybrid working model and you will be permitted to work from home on some occasions. You will be provided with IT equipment and software/services required to facilitate your efficient home working. The role will include require travel throughout the U.K. and for which company pool cars are available, hence, a valid driving licence will be required. Occasional multi-day site visits will require overnight stays. Occasional travel by air will be required, for which a valid passport and photo ID is required. Our clients are located worldwide but most of your work is likely to be in the U.K. for the foreseeable future. There may also be the opportunity for travel to Europe depending on specific client or project requirements.

Qualifications/Skills

The successful candidate will have received one of the following qualifications:

  • IOSH Accredited Honours or Masters Degree in occupational health & safety, environmental health, or a related subject.
  • BOHS accredited degree.

and/or

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety / National Diploma for Occupational Health & Safety Management Professionals.
  • Graduate member of IOSH and working towards chartership.

One or more of the following would be desirable:

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and understanding of U.K. health & safety legislation and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to positively interact with colleagues and clients.
  • Good report writing skills, and the ability to convey complex information in concise technical reports/deliverables.
  • Strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret data in order to identify compliance issues and potential improvements/solutions.
  • Self-motivation and high levels of initiative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional software packages.

Lengthy demonstrations of these points at the application stage is not required. These aspects will be discussed in detail at the interview stage.
