We are recruiting for an Environmental Consultant – Compliance Auditor to deliver environmental legal compliance audits and support clients with consultancy services in specialist areas such as REACH, Chemical Management, Batteries, Single Use Plastics and Packaging, F-gases, Waste Duty of Care, TCFD, etc. The role is based within our established Environmental Compliance Team.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work in a client-facing role with key responsibilities for excellent project delivery, valued outcomes, and great customer service. Our auditors have the fantastic opportunity to work for clients from a wide range of industries – the variety of audit and project work is one of the many attractive parts of this role.

Our environmental legal compliance clients range from industrial manufacturing and engineering sites to construction sites to public sector and commercial businesses; projects range from regular legal compliance auditing and specialised projects to support clients with compliance activities. We are seeking someone with a broad range of knowledge in environmental legislation and compliance areas to support and help grow our team.

Please note that the wider Mabbett team includes environmental engineering specialists who deal with EPR, PPC, effluent treatment, air emissions, and environmental permitting, and energy engineers who support ESOS projects, so detailed knowledge of these areas is not a requirement of the role, however, general awareness of these areas is.

Core technical project areas include:

  • Environmental legal compliance support, including on-site client-facing auditing, consulting, and training delivery.
  • Chemical and waste management.

Specialist technical project areas you will be involved with include:

  • Packaging and plastic packaging.
  • Chemical registration (REACH), chemical management, and spill response.
  • Waste duty of care.
  • End-of-waste and circular economy.

The successful candidate will work within a supportive, friendly, and driven team, with interesting clients and projects all whilst contributing to meeting Team Mabbett targets.

Your main office base will be Glasgow, with hybrid working as an option however ability and willingness to travel is a requirement of this role. You will be provided with all IT equipment and software/services required to facilitate your efficient home working. Long-term arrangements will be discussed and agreed upon with the successful candidate – we are a flexible employer and are willing to consider any arrangement that is desirable to you.

The position will require travel (including occasional overnight stays) throughout Scotland, the U.K., and abroad depending on project requirements. Company pool cars are available for business travel – a valid driving license is required, valid passport and photo ID are required for air travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and position requirements.

Qualifications

  • Essential – Honours or Master’s Degree in environmental / science-related subject or other qualification backed up by a minimum of 1 year’s experience in a relevant area.
  • Desirable – Membership (graduate, affiliate, associate, or full) of a related professional institute e.g. IEMA, CIWM, etc.
  • Desirable – CEnv or working towards this professional registration is desired.

Experience and competence (as related to the technical project areas listed above) in:

  • Understanding of a wide range of environmental legislation areas.
  • Understanding business operations and how environmental compliance issues may impact on these operations.
  • Effective task and project management.
  • Communicating successfully with individuals at all levels.
  • Industrial experience is desirable.
  • Understanding the use of online tools for audit tracking/data management is desirable.
  • Regulatory experience may be an advantage, but is not essential.
