IEMA Certified Internal EMS Auditor Course

An integral part of operating an Environmental Management System (EMS) is checking the system that has been implemented into an organisation is operating as planned.
This requirement is met through the internal audit process which provides a systematic approach in line with ISO 19011:2011 (Guidelines for auditing management systems) to checking that the system meets requirements and achieves continual improvement. ISO 14001:2015 is used as a basis for the EMS structure, and key areas for audit are signposted.
The IEMA Internal EMS Auditor Training provided by Mabbett is a 3-day course designed to provide individuals who have been allocated the responsibility to audit an organisation’s EMS the skills and knowledge to do so. This is achieved through a combination of theory based modules, practical exercises and an assessment on the last day.
The course is split into a number of sections to introduce delegates to the key concepts of environmental management and auditing.

The course modules will run consecutively over a 3-day period, and include exercises and mock audits.
There is a final written assessment based on the contents of the course syllabus lasting approximately 1.5 hours and consisting of two parts:
- Part 1: Multiple choice and short answer questions.
- Part 2: Written essay style questions.
On successful completion of the course and achieving a minimum score of 60% final assessment, delegates will receive a training certificate. A certificate of attendance is provided should candidates not meet the assessment minimum score.
No prior EMS, auditing or environmental management experience is required for this course, however each delegate should take time prior to attending the course to get familiar with their organisation’s EMS. This will allow each delegate to put the elements covered in the training into the context of their own organisation.
This IEMA course has attendee criteria, for a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 delegates. Without minimum numbers, the course may be postponed or cancelled. In this case, either an alternative will be offered, or a full refund will be provided.
Course handouts, pens and paper will be provided, however delegates may be asked to bring with them appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (where required for live audits).
Delegates will be working hard! To fuel the course, all lunches and refreshments will be provided; please advise of any dietary requirements at least 48 hours in advance.
